The Spirit of Competition
Bringing Out the Best in Students
Competition in any form brings out the best in people and pushes them to excel. In schools, if used effectively, it can enhance learning significantly.
Competition in the classroom can be healthy and should be encouraged when it motivates students to extend themselves, explore their real capabilities and maximize their true potential.
Healthy Competition
It allows students to stretch their abilities while recognizing their strengths and areas where they can continue to improve.
Why Competition Matters
Turning Challenge Into Growth
When used effectively, competition can help students understand their capabilities and encourage them to work towards their personal best.
Extend Yourself
Students are encouraged to go beyond their comfort zone and challenge their existing abilities.
Discover Potential
Healthy challenges help students recognize and maximize their true potential.
Measure Progress
Students can evaluate their own performance and identify areas for improvement.
Strive for Excellence
Competition can motivate students to put consistent effort into their learning and activities.
Classroom Competition
A Healthy Drive to Perform Better
Traditionally, schools have fostered competition among students by assigning positions at the end of the term or semester.
Each student may be assigned a position based on the average score obtained from an aggregate of tests and assignment scores. Some schools also recognize positions by individual subjects as well as overall class performance.
This gives students an opportunity to understand their performance in different areas and compare their progress with the expectations of their learning environment.
Overall Performance
Understanding overall academic progress.
Subject Strengths
Recognizing individual areas of strength.
Continuous Effort
Encouraging students to maintain consistent effort.
Self Evaluation
Know Your Strength. Improve Your Game.
Students are able to match their abilities against those of their classmates and understand where they stand in their learning journey.
Through this process, students can evaluate their own competencies and recognize areas where they need to put in greater effort.
Evaluate
Understand your current performance.
Identify
Recognize strengths and challenges.
Improve
Decide where more effort is required.
Excel
Work consistently towards excellence.
